Kevin Reed

MAMOU - The family of Kevin Peter Reed announces his passing on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the age of 64.  Kevin passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family after enduring a series of severe strokes.

Kevin Peter Reed was born on August 5, 1958 and was a bundle of joy to his mother Pauline Reed and his father Revon Reed for decades to come.  He was in a world of his own imagination and wonder.  He challenged his physical endurance and perseverance by peddling his mountain bike from Mamou to Ouiska Chitto River once a month.  Kevin was most remembered for his eye for creation with cypress knees. You see, a crew boat captain sees a lot more than shrimp and water.  He collected and created works of art with cypress knees. His sculptured collection consisted of deer “antler’, custom stained, a standing clock and mirror and much more.  His plethora of supplies came from Cypress along the Mississippi River. As a young child, Kevin and his sister Karen built cities in the dirt around the family patio with his hot wheels zooming about.  They would build forts deep in the woods and they shared a deep love for sunny California.

Kevin was cared for by his sister, Retta; brother, Seth; and nephew, Rory.  Each of these generous angels of mercy assured daily that he was safe, loved, and cared for.  Most importantly, that he was not alone. His family is deeply saddened but forever grateful for the memories they created throughout the years.  His life will be honored with memories and laughter.  One by one we sail away.  We sail to our loved ones who are anchored and waiting with a magical reconnection.   Sail away little brother.  We will all share the same waters once again.

He is survived by his son, Kyle Meche; and siblings, Chippy, Retta, Karen, Holly, and Seth.

Kevin is preceded in in death by his parents, Revon and Pauline Reed; brother, Colin Paul Reed; and sister, Patricia Reed.
