David Fontenot

September 2, 1950 — March 25, 2023

MAMOU - David Lynn Fontenot passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the age of 72. A celebration of life will be celebrated at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 6:00 PM.

David Lynn Fontenot was born on Saturday, September 2, 1950 in Eunice, Louisiana to Earl Joseph Fontenot and Mercedes Fuselier and grew up in Mamou. David lived life to its fullest and spent as much time outdoors as he could. While outdoors, he enjoyed duck hunting and offshore fishing. David was a true and loyal fan of LSU sports and knew all of their stats and rankings. He always enjoyed LOUD music and would listen to everything from disco to classic rock to R&B. Dancing was a great pastime David “Big Dav” had and would dance to any beat he heard, even “belly rubbing music” as he called it. David was proud to be an American and a Republican, and never turned down a riveting political debate. He was a member of the NRA and loyally practiced his American right given by the Second Amendment. In addition to having a good time, David also knew how to work hard. Early in his career, he helped build the Alaskan Pipeline and worked as a production operator for both Tenneco and Chevron until his retirement in 1998. This sports enthusiast, loving father, brother, and grandfather will be greatly missed. His zest for life will remain in the hearts of all those that knew him. Above all, his most treasured time was spent with his family, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.  The family would like to give a special thanks to Hope Hospice for all of their caring assistance.

David is survived by one son, Shawn Louis Fontenot and wife, Kimberley; four daughters: Julie Corey, Shana Coleman-Ivie and husband, Ray, Kristi Fontenot Lynch, and Regina Fontenot and husband, Casey; former wife, Gwen Bergeron; eight grandchildren: Devin, Katherine , Jackson, Orrin, Allyson, Matthew, Travis, and Lainey; and five great grandsons: Eli, Finlay, Walker, Wyatt, and Daxton. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his brothers, Daniel Fontenot and Jason Fontenot and sister, Myra Fontenot.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Joseph Fontenot and Mercedes Fuselier; maternal grandparents, Joseph Lee Fuselier Greer and Lorice Vidrine; and paternal grandparents, Maxime Fontenot and Lelma Menier.
