MAMOU-Funeral Services will be held at a 2:00 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Sunday, February 2, 2020 for Merlin Firmin, 79, who passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones.
Deacon Gene LeBeouf will conduct all funeral services.
Burial will take place in Reed Cemetery.
Merlin Fontenot was born on October 23, 1940 to her parents, Leo and Lela Fontenot. She loved to sew when she was younger. Cooking, especially BBQ, was her passion. She even would enjoy BBQ when it was cold outside. She loved cooking boston butts, pork steaks, and chicken on the pit. She seasoned her meat well making it extra spicy. Merlin also enjoyed a good card game. Poker and Booray were her favorite games to play. She also loved her animals. They were well taken care of. She even cooked their meals for them.
She is survived by her two sons, James Menier of Oberlin and Tony Menier of Oberlin; two daughters, Marilyn Manuel and husband Harold of Ville Platte, Linda Townsend and husband Steve of Mamou; ten grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and two sisters, Nerlin Daniels of Mamou and Rose Burgess of Washington State.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lela Fontenot; Step-Father, Elton Menier; daughter, Nita Marie Ardoin; four brothers, Emery Fontenot, Edward Fontenot, Ferrell Bertrand, and Jimmy Morea; two granddaughters, Christina Rider and Amy Menier; grandson, Jacob Thibodeaux; and great granddaughter, Elijah Faith Rider.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou on Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM.
