Obituary

MAMOU – Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, for Joseph Daylen Johnson, 80, who passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021. 

Father Billy Massie, Pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, will be celebrant of the Mass and conduct funeral services.

Burial will take place in Pine Point Cemetery.

Joseph Daylen Johnson was born on March 26, 1941, in Ville Platte, LA.  He was veteran of the United States Army and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Joseph worked as a Field Foreman Operator and managed oil production in a large portion of the Gulf.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He adored his wife Vivian, and they were married for 60 years.  Joseph was kind, caring and always willing to help others in time of need.  He volunteered for many years at Savoy Medical Center, Oaklane Wellness, and Savoy Care Center.  He led the rosary daily at the nursing home where his wife resided for 10 years.  He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and friends around the state of Louisiana.  His family and friends will miss him dearly. 

Joseph is survived by his sons, Gregory Johnson, and Timothy Johnson; daughter, Monette Manuel and husband, Kirk; grandchildren, Gregory Paul Johnson, Alaina Coreil, Morgan Chapman, Trudy Johnson, Cory Johnson, Lauren Manuel, Julie Manuel, Nicole Manuel, and Luke Manuel; three great grandchildren; cousin who was like a sister to him, Linda Fontenot; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Courville Johnson; parents; daughter, Mareisha Johnson Chapman; sister, Ruby Fontenot Johnson; brother, Landris Johnson; and two half-brothers.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM.  A rosary will be recited by Deacon Gary Gaudin on Monday evening at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 8:00 AM until time of service.
