MAMOU-Funeral Services will be held at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Thursday, June 27, 2019, for Herschel Glenn Marcantel, Sr., 77, who passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in Mamou, LA surrounded by his loved ones.
The mass will be celebrated by Father Randall Moreu along with Father Billy Massie.
Herschel Glenn Marcantel, Sr. was born on November 28, 1941 in Elizabeth, LA to V.L. and Verdie Johnson Marcantel. He married the love of his life Dorothy Molitor Marcantel after joining the United States Air Force; which he served 4 years. He worked hard farming to provide for his family. Herschel was a man of great character. His strength, courage, hardworking nature, and faith were instilled in his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother. His greatest joy was the joy he had for his family and his farm. Herschel led by example; he was strong and stern, but always showed his caring side. He instilled many life lessons in his children. His grandchildren and great grandchildren adored him and looked up to him.
He is survived by his three sons, Glenn Marcantel and wife Cindy of Grand Coteau, Donald Marcantel and wife Anne of Ville Platte and Sean Marcantel and wife Bonnie of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Angie Soileau and husband Barry of Spring Prairie and Amanda Meche and husband Steven of Baton Rouge; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Michael "Mickey" Marcantel and wife Margaret of Pineville; and one sister, Debbie Hoffpauir and husband Bill of High Point.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Molitor Marcantel; parents, V.L. and Verdie Marcantel; and one brother, Donald Wayne Marcantel.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Visitation will resume on Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
