A Mass of Christian Burial for Vicente Soria will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou, Louisiana, with Father Billy Massie as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
Vicente passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born on March 8, 1945, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Gerardo Soria and Blanca Peñafiel, Vicente carried his Ecuadorian roots with pride throughout his life. He later attended LSU, where he met the love of his life, May. Their 55-year marriage was a testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
Vicente built a distinguished career as a petroleum engineer, traveling extensively to countries including Venezuela and Kuwait. Though his work took him around the world, his favorite assignment was aboard the Zapata Rig in the Gulf of Mexico. He approached his profession with dedication, intelligence, and a spirit of adventure.
Beyond his career, Vicente found his greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures. He cherished time at the beach, especially at the family’s beloved beach house in Playas, Ecuador. He could often be found relaxing on his favorite sofa, enthusiastically watching soccer and football for hours. A true lover of Cajun cuisine, Vicente delighted in sharing meals, laughter, and sweet treats with family and friends — moments that brought everyone together in joyful celebration.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicky Guillory and her husband, Brent; his son, Michael Soria; his grandchildren, Blake Guillory and Alana Hamman and her husband, Matt; and his sisters, LuLu and Estella Soria.
His grandpuppies, Dex, Morty, and Lexi, will miss his love and gentle presence.
Vicente was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, May “Grace” Douget Soria, and his parents, Gerardo Soria and Blanca Peñafiel.
At the request of the family, a private visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou, Louisiana, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
