MAMOU – It is with the heaviest hearts that the family of Sharon “Yaya” Tate Berzas announces her passing on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette at the age of 69. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, November 29, 2021, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery with Father Bala, Celebrant.
Sharon “YaYa” Tate Berzas was a life-long resident of Mamou and was well known in the community. She worked for Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou for 24 years helping the families of friends and neighbors. In her spare time, Sharon loved playing cards, Pokeno and Buncos, while hanging out with her many friends. She also enjoyed listening to music. Sharon was one of a kind and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by those that knew her.
Sharon is survived by her mother, Carina “Sue” Vasseur of Mamou; three children, Rachel LaFleur and husband, Kirk, of Mamou, Nichole Fritz and husband, Shannon of Mamou, and Chad Veillon and wife, Lynn of Moss Bluff; sister, Sandra Tate McClelland of Franklin; brother, Preston James Dugas and wife, Jacqueline of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Tate of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Alex LaFleur and wife, April, Shelby Ewing, Chandler LaFleur and companion, Alyssa, Madison Fritz, Carina Veillon, Mason LaFleur, and Sophia Fritz; and nine great grandchildren, Carley, Ava, Madeline, Asher, Audley, Remi, Rivers, Cohen, and Ayla. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her three step children, David Elliott and wife, Sheila of Pine Prairie, Lisa Triplett and husband, Mike of Reddell, and Jonathon Berzas and wife, Belinda of Philadelphia, PA; ten step grandchildren, Brandy Lafleur and husband, Joe, Scott Elliott and wife, Julie, Hunter Elliott, Heath Elliott and wife, Kimberly, Shawn Triplett and wife, Kashada, Joshua Triplett and wife, Abigail, Alex Triplett and wife, Anna, Brandon Berzas, Joseph Berzas, and Jacob Berzas; 16 step great grandchildren; and two step great-great grandchildren.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Larry Berzas; father, Alfred Tate; and brother, Ronald Tate.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a rosary prayed in her honor Sunday evening at 6:00 PM led by Angie Granger. Visitation will resume on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 8:00 AM until time of service.
