MAMOU - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roger Lee Aucoin announces his passing on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the age of 68. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery. Father Billy Massie will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct services.
Roger Lee Aucoin was born in Mamou, Louisiana on November 2, 1954 to Kervin Aucoin, Sr. and Clararita “Rita” Meche Aucoin and was a lifelong resident of Mamou. Roger was a “Jack of all trades” and master of most. He had many occupations during his life, among which were: driving a truck for I. E. Miller, being a sandblast painter for Cameron Ironworks, and working at the Wal Mart Distribution Center. Roger enjoyed raising animals and tending to his garden. He will be remembered for his joking personality. In his free time, Roger loved to watch TV, especially Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and the Rodeo. He took watching his favorite shows seriously; the volume had to be turned up high and there couldn’t be any talking. One of his passions was peeling beans from his garden with his grandchildren and his latest passion was watching his family grow with his latest great grandchild, Eli . Roger was strong willed and stood firm on things he believed in. His greatest joy in life however was that of spending time with and providing for his family. They were his passion, his life, and his world. A passion in early life was running Mardi Gras which he passed on to his 4 grandchildren who are a major part of the Mardi Gras tradition in mamou. Roger was a hard working, caring, and loving man who will be greatly missed by many. He will forever have a special place in the hearts of those that loved him.
Left behind to cherish his memory are the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Monica Fontenot Aucoin; one daughter, Nicole Aucoin Bordelon and companion, George Cain; four grandchildren: Tyler Joseph Bordelon, Elizabeth Brooke Bordelon, Corey Zeth Bordelon and Haley DeMars, and Matthew Clay Bordelon and Marrissa Young; one sister, Celina Aucoin Bertrand and husband, Blake; two bonus grandchildren: Carli and William Cain; two great grandchildren: Eli Jude Bordelon and Lane Joseph DeMars; mother in law, Bernita Fontenot Chapman; sister in law Charlotte Marcantel and husband Curtis, brother in law, Pernell Fontenot; Aucoin sister in laws, Dianne, Phyllis, Maria and Verna; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death and rejoices with his family in heaven who are his parents, Kervin Aucoin, Sr. and Clararita “Rita” Meche Aucoin; son, Joseph Brian Aucoin; sister, Ella Jane Blanchard; brothers, Burkeman Aucoin, Kervin Aucoin, Jr., Jonathan Aucoin, and Ricky Aucoin; sister-in-law, Corlis Fontenot and husband, Nathan Fontenot.
