MAMOU - Rodley “Shane” Fontenot passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the age of 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Lawtell.
Rodley Fontenot was born on May 30, 1935, in Mamou, Louisiana to J.B. Edna Fontenot and Armide Aucoin Fontenot. He was joyously married for 52 years to Melba Jean Hildago Fontenot whom he loved and cherished more than life itself. A member of Woodmen of the World and an electrician by trade, Rodley took joy in camping and traveling with his beloved family, often stopping along the roadside to read historical monuments. More than anything, he considered his kids, grandkids, and Melba his whole life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rodley is survived by his daughter, Nichole Fontenot Suire of Lake Charles, and his son, Wendall Mark Fontenot and wife, Patricia, of Midland, Texas; grandchildren: Jacob Andrew Fontenot and wife, Jennifer, Nicholas Britt Suire and wife, Brittany, Ashley Rebecca Fontenot and husband, Kyle, Christian Skylar Suire, Kye Joseph Fontenot and wife, Molly, and Mark Anthony Fontenot; great-grandchildren: Hunter Fontenot, Garrett Fontenot, Finnley Suire, Addison Fontenot, Jaci Bigley, Colton Suire, Kason Bigley, Landry Suire, and Kameron Fontenot; brother, Edley Paul Fontenot.
Rodley is preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Edna Fontenot and Armide Aucoin Fontenot; his loving wife, Melba Jean Hidalgo Fontenot; brother, Frazee Fontenot; sister, Ann Joseph Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM.
