Obituary

Robert Lee McGee was a lifelong resident of Mamou and a hardworking man who enjoyed life, loved his family, and took pride in his work. But if you wanted to find Robert at his happiest, you could usually find him at the camp, surrounded by family and friends. His camp was his home away from home, a place filled with laughter, good food, hunting stories, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Robert proudly devoted 30 years of service to the City of Mamou, where he worked his way up to superintendent of wastewater, sewer, and gas operations. He also served his community as a deputy and later as Chief of Police. Through his years of hard work and public service, Robert made a lasting difference in the community he called home. He was a familiar and respected presence to many, and his dedication to the people of Mamou will remain part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Outside of work, Robert loved spending time at West Fork Hunting Club and Lonesome Dove Hunting Club. He enjoyed deer hunting, riding four-wheelers, and cooking in his black pot, especially his famous sticky turkey made with turkey wings. Although he may not have brought home a lot of deer, he never missed out on what mattered most—the time spent with the people he loved. Some of his favorite memories were made teaching all his children to drive in his little old red Chevy S-10 truck. Those moments, along with countless days and nights at the camp, will forever hold a special place in his family's hearts.

Robert's greatest pride was his family. His love and legacy will continue through his children, Cassie Dardeau and her husband, Tyler; Merranda Stringer and her husband, Jamie; and Robbie McGee and his wife, Cameron; and his beloved grandchildren, Layten, Emeri, Kree, Ryder, Kannon, Tye, and Elijah. He is also survived by his brother, Rickey McGee; his sister, Belinda Childress, and her husband, Wesley “Wes”; and his godchildren, Tasha and Kayla, along with many other family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harris McGee; his mother, Amanda Marcantel; and his brother, Paul McGee.

Though Robert's time here has ended, the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Every gathering at the camp, every meal cooked in his black pot, and every story shared among family and friends will serve as a reminder of a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and knew the true value of time spent together.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 16, 2026, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
