It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Keith "Smoky" Manuel, a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, who left us on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in his hometown of Mamou, Louisiana. Born on January 11, 1955, Robert was well-known as a dedicated 18 wheeler driver, navigating the open roads with the same skill and fervor he approached all aspects of life.
Robert will be remembered not just for his profession but for the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. His quick wit and sense of humor were remarkable traits that often lit up the room, bringing smiles to friends and family alike. Those fortunate enough to know him will cherish the memories of him cooking delicious meals for gatherings, sharing stories over old Western movies, and delighting in the simple pleasures of life, especially enjoying a cold Budweiser after a long day of work.
The family he leaves behind is a testament to the love and care he poured into their lives. Surviving him are his daughter, Pauline Hebert; sons, Broady Manuel, Benjamin Manuel, and Joshua Manuel with wife Katielynn Manuel; and sisters, Debra Fontenot, Lynnette Douget, and Annette Manuel. Robert was also a proud grandfather to Matthew Hebert, Christian Hebert, Jaden Manuel, Brennan Manuel, Allison Manuel, Courtney Manuel, Tucker Manuel, and Lainey Manuel, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit.
He is preceded in death by his devoted parents, Burna Mae Fuselier and Joseph Lee Manuel, along with his brother, Donald Manuel and grandchild Kami Manuel. Their love and guidance shaped Robert into the man remembered today—one who valued family above all.
A memorial service to honor Robert's life will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Sanctuary Of Praise in Mamou, LA. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate his remarkable life and legacy, sharing stories and memories that will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember the joy Robert brought to our lives. His laughter and love will echo in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
