Richard Ross "Poncho" Reed

A memorial mass will be held for Richard R. “Poncho” Reed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery at a later date.

Poncho passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023. Poncho was born on February 26, 1960 in Mamou to Floyd Collins Reed and Lula Belle Dougia of Mamou, Louisiana. He retired from working in the oilfield where he performed offshore marine transportation. Poncho enjoyed camping, as well as building outdoor furniture and his special sheds. He also enjoyed drawing with pencils especially his artwork of his lifelong home of Mamou. On trash days, Poncho enjoyed going around town and finding things to recycle. Poncho enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Poncho is survived by: brothers, Michael Reed, and wife Cindy, Patrick Reed, and wife Pam, and Robert Reed, and wife, Karen, all of Mamou; sisters, Donna Reed Harper and husband, Dan of Metairie, Louisiana and Mary Katharine Reed Lejeune of Church Point; 16 nieces and nephews; 38 great nieces and nephews; and 1 great great nephew.

Poncho is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Collins Reed and Lula Belle Dougia and brother, Lon Barry Reed.
