Obituary for Richard L. Chretien February 8, 1949 - April 12, 2026

Richard L. Chretien, a devoted man of faith, loving father and grandfather, and hardworking provider, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born in Pine Claire, Louisiana, Richard was a proud member of the Class of 1968 from Joseph Celestine High School. He went on to earn an associate's degree in business from Tarrant County College. A proud Army veteran, he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War as a medic, holding the rank of Specialist 4. His service and sacrifice reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment.

Faith was the cornerstone of Richard's life. A devout Catholic, he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and lived his life guided by strong spiritual values, compassion, and service to others. He was a man of deep conviction, guided by his faith in every step he took. Whether in quiet prayer or in the way he treated others-with kindness, patience, and humility-he reflected the values he held close to his heart. His belief in doing what was right, even when it was not easy, left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Richard built a long and dedicated career through many roles, including working at the Veterans Hospital as a nurse's assistant and technician, serving as a manager at Winn-Dixie, working in sales for Schlitz Brewing Company, and eventually retiring as a transportation supervisor. He also spent time as a school bus driver in Fort Worth, a role he truly enjoyed, forming special bonds with the children on his route.

Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Richard took great pride in providing for his family and ensuring their success. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands-gardening, fixing things, and taking items apart just to understand how they worked. If something was broken, Richard could fix it.

Above all, he cherished his family. He leaves behind his beloved son, Jason Chretien and wife Jaime of Montgomery, Texas; his treasured grandchildren, Ashton and Holden; his sisters Dorothy Arceneaux, Aniece Linda Smith, Cora Chretien, Helen Chretien Lee, and Tina Fontenot (Jr.); his brothers Martin Fontenot (Thelma), Roger Chretien (Laura), Joseph Chretien (Virginia), and Gregory Chretien (Pam); and dear cousins, including D.L. Fontenot, Thelma Fontenot Martin, and Alfred Fontenot.

Richard is reunited in Heaven with his loving parents, Leroy Chretien (Elton) and Hazel Chretien (Soileau), and his beloved wife, Belinda Pyle Chretien.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:30 PM and a private family gathering at 3:00 PM. On Saturday, visitation will begin at 8:00 AM until the time of Mass at St. Ann's Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 AM. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Chretien, Holden Chretien, Garrett Chretien, Greg Chretien, Martin Fontenot, Jr. Burial will follow at Pine Claire Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, La for their caring and compassionate care shown to Richard.

Richard's life was a testament to faith, service, and dedication. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
