Meguel James Deshotel
May 14, 1968 – July 22, 2026
Meguel James Deshotel, born on May 14, 1968, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and a longtime resident of Mamou, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 58, surrounded by his loving family.
Meguel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. He spent his life providing for those he loved and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In 1996, Meguel began his career in the offshore oil industry with Shell Oil. Through determination, skill, and a strong work ethic, he advanced throughout his career, eventually serving in supervisory roles where he was respected for his leadership, attention to quality, and commitment to ensuring every job was completed safely and correctly. He was a true company man who took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout the years.
Outside of work, Meguel enjoyed anything mechanical and could fix just about anything. He never had to bring a vehicle to a repair shop because he could repair it himself. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, shooting sports, and cheering on his beloved New Orleans Saints. Whether working on a project, spending time outdoors, or gathering with family and friends, Meguel found joy in the simple things in life.
Above all else, Meguel treasured his family. His greatest pride was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He loved deeply and generously, always putting the needs of his family before his own.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 41 years, Eleanor Ortego Deshotel; his beloved children, Teri Angelle Deshotel, Meguel Deshotel and fiancée Jessica Garcia, and Kelly James Deshotel; and his cherished grandchildren, Aiden Paul Courville, Kara Ann Courville, Emma Eleanor Deshotel, and Everlyn Deshotel, who is expected soon.
He is also survived by his brothers, Andre Deshotel and Josh Deshotel; and his sisters, Naomie Deshotel, Robin Deshotel, Christiane Deshotel, and Tabatha Deshotel, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Meguel was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Joe Deshotel and Euna Deshotel, both of Mamou, and his sister, Nicole Deshotel.
A time of visitation will be held at Ardoin Funeral Home on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Ardoin Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bieber Cemetery.
Meguel's legacy of hard work, kindness, strength, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
