Matthew Alexander Christopher, a dedicated Navy veteran, passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2026. Born on September 16, 1960, Matthew’s life was marked by service, devotion to family, and a warm personality that endeared him to all who knew him.

A proud Navy veteran, Matthew served with distinction on the USS Holland and was a combat veteran of the Gulf War. His military tenure spanned from 1979 to 1987 and resumed again from 1989 to 1992, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his country. Over the course of his service, he earned three honorable discharges alongside multiple commendations including three sea service deployment ribbons, two humanitarian service medals, three Navy E Ribbons, two good conduct awards, and the National Defense Service Medal. These honors stand as a testament to his courage, dedication, and professionalism.

Following his military career, Matthew devoted 30 years to working as a delivery driver for Pepsi Cola, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor. His coworkers and customers alike appreciated his humble nature and affable spirit.

Matthew's personality was as vibrant as his life was full. Known for his great sense of humor and practical jokes, he enjoyed moments of levity inspired by his love for The Three Stooges, a show he fondly related to, many often jesting that he acted like a stooge himself. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved to wear colorful T-shirts, and found joy in playing board games such as Sorry and UNO. Many fond memories include him sitting on his porch, enjoying a Budweiser beer while smoking, relishing the simple pleasures of life.

Above all, Matthew was a loving family man and proud “girl dad.” His greatest accomplishment was his daughter, a source of immense pride and joy. He leaves behind a legacy of love extended to his daughter Rachael Christopher of Reddell, his ex-wife and caretaker in his later years, Sonya Christopher of Reddell, and his brother Paul Christopher of Maine, along with his sister Becky Christopher of Pennsylvania. He also cherished his role as a grandfather, having shared countless special moments with his grandchildren Gaige Christopher, Emma Christopher, and Jacelyn Richard, and he eagerly anticipated the arrival of his unborn great-granddaughter, Kimberlynn Christopher. Additionally, Matthew was fondly remembered by multiple nieces and nephews who carry forward his memory.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joseph Christopher, as well as his siblings David, Joe, Mark, Aaron, and Rachael. Their memories remain woven into the fabric of his life story.

In celebrating Matthew Alexander Christopher’s life, we honor a man who embodied love, humility, and loyalty both on and off the battlefield. His spirit remains alive in the hearts of those who loved him and in the stories shared by friends and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with respect and affection.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 11 AM until 1 PM to honor Matthew's life.
