It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Nazel Savant Tate of Alexandria, Louisiana, announces her passing on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Regency House in Alexandria, LA, at the age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou with Father Billy Massie officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Ann’s Mausoleum.
Mary is survived by two sons: Anthony Brent Tate of Dry Prong, LA, and Michael Kent Tate and wife, Shelley, of Pollock, LA; two daughters: Pam Coffey of North Ogden, UT, and Roxanne Speer and husband, Paul, of Wexford, PA. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Burnell Savant and wife Dolores of Lafayette, LA, and one sister: Dorothy Jean Foret of Washington, LA.
Mary was a woman of many talents. She loved to cook, sew, crochet, needlepoint, and create ceramic wonders. She was a graduate of Vidrine High School in the class of 1952 and moved to Baton Rouge to become a secretary. She married Ronald James Tate in 1956 and started a family, moving numerous times to follow her Air Force husband until he retired and they settled in Alexandria in 1972 where she lived until her death. She was a member of St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
She now reunites in Heaven with her husband, Ronald J. Tate; her parents, Avey and Esther Guillory Savant; and her brothers: Eurven Savant and Herman Savant.
The family requests visitation take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ardoin Funeral Home in Mamou with a rosary being recited at 5:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 10:00 am until time of service.
The family would also like to extend their gratefulness to Regency House in Alexandria & Guardian Hospice for their personal care.
