Mary Ethel Savant, a loving housewife and devoted mother, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Ville Platte, Louisiana at the age of 93. Born on Saturday, March 5, 1932, in Beaver Creek, Louisiana, Mary lived a life filled with love and creativity that touched the hearts of many around her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie. Burial will follow in the St. Peter’s Cemetery with Fr Dugas officiating services.
Mary was known for her loving and sweet personality; she was so beloved that many of those she encountered wished they could “take her home”. She was a strong and independent lady, who lived on her own until just five months prior to her passing.
Mary brought joy and warmth to family gatherings through her love for cooking, often preparing heartwarming meals for family dinners. Her hobbies included arts and crafts such as crocheting, quilting, and sewing, and she thoroughly enjoyed participating in various activities at Prairie Manor, especially Bingo.
Mary loved to read and reached an impressive milestone of reading 1,000 books in the last five years of her life. This accomplishment highlights her appetite for stories and knowledge.
For 70 wonderful years, Mary shared her life with her beloved husband, Raymond Savant, who preceded her in death. After retirement, Mary and Raymond joined several camping clubs and made many new friends as they enjoyed the peacefulness of nature and their time together.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Debbie S. Breland and husband, Jim of Baton Rouge, Anita Aguillard and husband, John of Lake Land, and Donna Ortego and husband, Danny of Pine Prairie and two sons, Keith Savant and wife, Carla of Pine Prairie and Ronnie Savant of Pine Prairie. She was proudly called “MawMaw” by her 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold dear the memories of their time with her. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Simar and brother, Darrell Ardoin.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Savant; her parents, Clifford and Edna Savant Ardoin; granddaughter, Kristin Stelly; great-grandson, Joshua Stelly; and siblings, Dorothy Evans, James D. Ardoin, Maxie Reed, Wade Ardoin, and Betty Guillory.
Mary's memory will be honored during the visitation periods on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:00 PM.
Mary Ethel Savant’s kind-heartedness and passion for life will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, family, and creativity will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
