Lorine Goodley Thomas, a beloved member of the Mamou community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on Friday, April 10, 1936, in Mamou, Louisiana, Lorine dedicated her life to serving the Lord and uplifting those around her.
For over 30 years, Lorine was a diligent employee at Savoy Medical Center in the housekeeping department, where her unwavering commitment to the well-being of her community was evident and earned her the role of supervisor. Her loving and caring nature allowed her to form deep connections with the citizens she served, leaving a lasting mark on many lives.
A proud member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church, Lorine’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was baptized at an early age and spent her years giving glory and praise to God for the many blessings she received. Her contributions to the church extended beyond attendance; she participated by singing in the choir and serving as a deaconess, mission sister, and prayer warrior. This profound commitment to her faith not only fostered her personal spiritual journey but also inspired others around her.
Lorine found joy in various hobbies, including cooking, cleaning, and planting beautiful flower gardens. Her talent for cooking left those at her table wanting more and singing her praises. She had a passion for music, often listening to spiritual songs and playing the guitar, which further brightened everyone’s day.
Lorine’s family meant everything to her and ensuring they were well cared for was her top priority. She is survived by the light of her life, her children, Ricky Thomas and his wife, Valerie of Opelousas, Phyllis Fontenot and her husband, Ricky of Mamou, and Lisa Thomas Fontenot and her husband, Gregory of Reddell. In addition to her children, Lorine leaves behind a rich legacy of love through her 10 grandchildren: Felicia Thomas, Angel Bradley, Brandon Fontenot, Megan Thibodeaux, Jeremy Thomas, Creshonda Thomas, Logan Thomas, Chloe Fontenot, Katie Thomas, and Nicole Thomas, as well as 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Lorine is also survived by her brothers, George (Obrey) Goodley and Wilford Goodley.
Lorine was predeceased by her parents, Ardiol Goodley, Sr. and Leze Ceasar Goodley; her son, Jeran "Bobby" Thomas; the father of her children, Julius Pete Thomas; and her brothers Willis, Preston, Raymond, Ellis, Columbus, Ardiol Jr., and Johnny Goodley; as well as sisters Eva Noel, Everlyn Poullard, and Lorretta Ned.
