Lionel Cormier, 69, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Born October 14, 1954, in Mamou, Louisiana, he was a remarkable man whose life was filled with joy, love, and kindness. He lived a fulfilling life and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:30 PM. Burial to follow in Reed Cemetery in L’anse Meg.
He displayed a strong work ethic and determination, embarked on a career in the oilfield and quickly became an exceptional truck driver. His skills were unrivaled as he swiftly rose through the ranks to become a trusted truck pusher. Lionel's ability to train and mentor numerous young men earned him profound love, respect, and admiration from all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
But it wasn't just his professional achievements that defined Lionel's life. His passion for family and the outdoors truly brought him joy and he reveled in rabbit hunting with his father and brothers. As he grew older, Lionel found solace in camping trips dedicated to deer hunting where he could strengthen bonds with loved ones.
Even after retirement, Lionel's love for nature never waned as he became a regular at Toledo Bend - forever chasing after the “catch of a lifetime!” When he wasn't out fishing or camping, he delighted in riding his X-Mark lawn mower while ensuring every blade of grass was perfectly manicured.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie Guillory Cormier; his children, Daniel “Danny” Cormier of L’anse Meg; and Carla Cormier Guillory and husband, Daniel; five grandchildren, Logan, Carson, Paisley, and Kamryn Cormier and Jaiden Guillory; three great-granddaughters, Meredith, Rory and Hollyn Cormier. Also left behind to cherish Lionel’s memory are his siblings, Jack (Nelita) Cormier, Ricky (Theresa) Cormier, Barbara Manuel, and Judy Worachek (Larry).
Lionel is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Amy Cormier; brothers, Carl Lee Cormier and Paul Silton Cormier; and parents, Kirby and Eva Cormier.
