It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Levens Lawrence Thibodeaux Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Levens peacefully left this world on September 29, 2023, in his hometown of Brusly, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old.
Born on July 10, 1942, Levens lived a life filled with laughter, love, and dedication. He proudly served his country as a true American patriot during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force, where he courageously served as an Air Force military police from 1960 to 1967. After his military service, Levens embarked on a career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he devoted 27 years of his life. As a dedicated railroader, he contributed to the transportation industry, leaving a lasting impact on the community he served. Beyond his professional endeavors, Levens embraced his Cajun heritage with passion. He cherished the sounds of Cajun music and the rhythms of swamp pop, allowing his heart to dance with joy. In his leisure time, he found solace and joy in building and painting model airplanes, showcasing his creativity and attention to detail.
Levens will forever be remembered as a loving husband to his late wife, Gertie Fontenot Thibodeaux. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with cherished memories and unwavering love. He was also a devoted father to his son, Levens Thibodeaux. Levens's love extended to his daughter, Jeannette Johnson, and his adored grandchildren, Amie Johnson, and Olivia Thibodeaux. He was a dedicated and caring brother to his surviving sibling, Whitney Thibodeaux.
In honor of Levens's life and his immeasurable impact on those he held dear, we invite friends, family, and members of the community to join us in paying our respects. The public viewing will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by a visitation service at 1:00 p.m., both held in the Visitation Room. We will gather to celebrate and honor Levens's life at the funeral service, also held in the Visitation Room, led by Deacon Chuck Ortego. The funeral service will commence at 1:00 p.m. on the same day. Following the funeral service, Levens will be laid to rest in a place he held dear, the New St Ann's Cemetery in Mamou, Louisiana, on October 7, 2023.
