Obituary

Kyle James Richardson, born on October 2, 1991, left this world on August 15, 2026. During his thirty-four years, he built a legacy defined by deep devotion to family, courage in service, excellence in work, and an outgoing spirit that touched all who knew him.

Kyle is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of eighteen years, Catrina Richardson, whose love and partnership he cherished above all. Their connection was a guiding light, inspiring everyone who witnessed it with its depth and sincerity. Kyle was a dedicated father to Elijah James Richardson, Ezra Jean' Richardson, Derick Scott Miller, Annabelle Marie Richardson, Gracie Rose Richardson, and Kenleigh Brooke Richardson, whose lives were shaped daily by his guiding presence and unwavering support. His mother, Eileen Duplechain, and husband, Shawn; father, Jeff Richardson; and wife, Lori, mourn the loss of a devoted son, as well as his brother, Christopher Richardson and numerous brother-in-laws he was very close to. Kyle’s family further extends to his mother-in-law, Catina Deshotel, and spouse, Shannon Richard, who shared a strong and loving bond with him. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so deeply. He will be greatly missed by all of his "battles" and men in arms whom he cherished so much.

He was preceded in death by Greg Scott Gautreaux, his father-in-law; Don Meuer, his grandfather; Carol Meuer, his grandmother; Joyce Richardson, his grandmother; and Normand Richardson, his grandfather. Their memories remain cherished within Kyle’s heart and family.

Kyle’s life was rich with accomplishment, yet he considered his proudest achievements the love he shared with Catrina and the family they built together. At his core, Kyle was a caring, selfless, and giving individual. His humor lit up every room, his empathy extended a helping hand to friends and strangers alike, and his commitment to uplifting others never wavered.

Professionally, Kyle was a successful oil operator consultant who approached his work in the oil field industry with a rare passion and dedication. Yet, through every career milestone, he was quick to say his favorite job was being a father and husband. Kyle’s sense of responsibility and hard work extended into his community service, volunteering with fire departments in Mamou, Ville Platte, and Pine Prairie, always seeking to make a difference where he could.

Service to country was another point of immense pride for Kyle, who served in the United States Army from 2009 to 2016, reaching the rank of E4. He bravely deployed overseas to Afghanistan, earning numerous honors for his valor and dedication: the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. His military service was marked by a steadfast commitment to his nation and his comrades.

Outside of professional and military life, Kyle was an adventurer and cherished experiences with those he loved. He had a zest for life evident in his hobbies: racing dirt bikes, crabbing, snowboarding, camping, and tubing with his family. His fondest memories included bringing his sons to the gun range and traveling extensively; he had explored more of the world than most ever dream, creating memories and stories at every stop. Always, Kyle remained an involved and enthusiastic father, finding joy in sharing both everyday moments and grand adventures with his children.

Those who knew Kyle remember a man whose laughter filled every gathering, whose kindness reached far and wide, and whose love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of joy, generosity, service, and deep connection.

At the family's request, a visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou from 11 AM until 10 PM and will reopen Monday, August 24, 2026, at 9 AM. A service to honor Kyle's life will take place at 2 PM at the same location. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Pastor Chris Frye officiating.

In remembering Kyle James Richardson, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, heart, and authenticity. His absence will be deeply felt, but his presence endures—in the family he nourished, the friends whose lives he brightened, and in the example he set for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
