June G. Fontenot, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 87. She was born on September 28, 1937, in China, Texas, then later making Mamou, LA her home. June cultivated a life marked by compassion, creativity, and unwavering support for those around her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Perron Cemetery on Oberlin Rd with Father Massie presiding over service.
For over 25 years, June dedicated herself to Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou, where she began her journey by cleaning and preparing meals of comfort, particularly the gumbo, for families dealing with loss. Her kind heart, attention to detail, and empathetic nature soon led her to become the secretary, where she continued to assist families during their most difficult times. June's impact on her community was profound, often going above and beyond to help anyone in need, a testament to her generous spirit and commitment to family.
A talented seamstress, June found joy in sewing. Each year, she crafted new clothes for her children, embedding love in every stitch. Her Mardi Gras costumes, which she created with passion and flair, were celebrated not just locally but found their way around the world. June also cherished the simple pleasure of sharing coffee with friends, enjoying lively conversations, and helping with alterations, ensuring that everyone around her felt cared for and cherished.
June was known for the depth of her love for her family; she embraced them wholeheartedly. Her warm presence and kind smile will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her especially her loving family, her kids, Pris Fontenot and Don Fontenot; her sister, Virgie Smith; her grandkids, Brady (Jamie), Darby (Dusty), Casey (Regina), Andy, Dana, John (Vickie), Shane, Lee (Nicole), Marybeth (Doug), Emmie, Joy, Betsy, Trent, and Tobi (Courtlyn); her great-grandkids, Cody, Chey, Bradley, Payton, Ashtyn, Allyson, Matthew, Lainey, Paisley, Cooper, Gavin, Chaz, Hayden, Dylan, Rheagon, Taylor, Bailey, Shawn, Brice, Caleb, Austin, Hadylne, Alexandra, Trevor, Tyler and Kyla, Lucas, Sammy, Sarah, Colson, Johnathan, Justin, Brandon, Damien, Michael, Julian and Ava. Also left to cherish her memories are her 20 sweet great-great-grandkids.
June is preceded in death by her loving husband, J.L. Fontenot; parents, Addison Guillory and Eulah Cranford Guillory; daughter, Diana and son-in-law, Mickey McCauley; son, Nathan “PeeWee” and daughter-in-law Corlis Fontenot, son-in-law, Joseph “Porky” Wayne Fontenot; and siblings, Earnest Guillory, Viola Barker, Edward Guillory, A.D. Guillory, J.B. Guillory, James Guillory, J.L. Guillory, Donald and JennyLee Guillory, and Jean Gaspard.
Visitation services will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 pm by Deacon Chuck Ortego. Visitation will resume on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
