MAMOU-A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 1:00 pm at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou for J Roy Reed, 70, who passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Ville Platte Medical Center. Burial will follow in the Ardoin Cemetery in Mamou with Father Bryce Sibley officiating.

J Roy participated in the youth program in Mamou for over 32 years, coaching baseball to children. He was also a girls softball coach, and was a devoted LSU and Saints fan.

A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, J Roy is survived by his wife, Georgiana G. Reed of Mamou; seven sons, Tim Manuel and wife, Penny of Beaver Creek, Michael Reed of Mamou, Patrick Reed of Mamou, Barry Manuel and wife, Cindy of Opelousas, Ferral Manuel and wife, Jeanne of Lafayette, Mitchell Reed of Mamou, and Nicholas Reed and wife, Neili of Mamou; four daughters, Cynthia Ahart of Opelousas, Mona Daigle and husband, Keith of Mamou, FeFe Cabe and husband, James of North Little Rock, AK, and Jennifer Jackson and husband, David of Mamou; one brother, Bob T. Reed of Mamou, four sisters, Mary Dupre of Mamou, Leola Blonde Reed of Ville Platte, Sylvia Mayeaux of Baton Rouge, and Sylvia Thompson of Tennessee; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-seven great grandchildren. J Roy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ophelia Boutte Ledoux; one son, Kenneth Reed; and one sister, Letha Marcantel.

The family request that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Mamou from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Monday, January 26, 2009 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Sunday evening.
