MAMOU - Funeral services will be held at a 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Saturday, January 4, 2020 for Hadrick “Haddie” Lois Smith, 92, who passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in Pine Prairie.
Father Billy Massie, pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Burial will take place in the New St, Ann’s Cemetery in Mamou.
Hadrick “Haddie” Lois Smith was born on November 16, 1928 in Mamou, Louisiana to Louis and Olivia Richard Ortego. She was well known for baking delicious fig cakes with figs that she had canned herself. Haddie was a devout Catholic and attended Mass on a regular basis. She was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary daily for her family and friends. Although she had a strong will, Haddie was a very kind hearted lady who loved her family dearly. Those left behind to cherish her memory will miss her greatly.
Haddie is survived by her sons, Paul Coby Smith and wife Karen, and Daryle L. Smith and wife Peggy, daughter Keither Smith Vidrine and husband Adam, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leopauld Smith, son David Smith, brother Merrick Ortego, sister Awol Fontenot, and parents, Louis Ortego and Olivia Richard Ortego.
The family requests that visitation by observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 6:00 PM led by Deacon Chuck Ortego.
