Elsie Louise Velek, born on October 28, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. Her life was marked by dedication, service, and an enduring love for her family and community.

Elsie proudly served her country in the United States Navy for five years, both stateside and overseas in Japan, where she worked as a Criminal Investigator. At the time of her retirement, she held the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Her commitment to duty and country was a defining aspect of her life and remains a testament to her strength and character.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Marco P. Melone and Teresa Fallegiardo. Elsie’s legacy is carried on by her husband of 47 years, Jerry Velek; her sister, Christine Hamilton (Rickey); her stepchildren, Chris Velek (Debbie) and Johanna Velek; and her 6 grandchildren—Rusty Vidrine (Felicia), Megan Manual (Brook aka Darrell), Christopher Velek (Jaden), Jerry Velek (Brittaniee), Justin Velek, Jennifer Velek—as well as numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom she cherished deeply.

Her love and devotion will continue to live on through the many lives she has touched. Elsie Louise Velek will be remembered not only for her military service but also for the warmth and kindness she extended to all who knew her. Her memory remains a blessing to her family and friends, who celebrate her life with profound respect and heartfelt gratitude.

A memorial to honor Elsie's life will be held at a later date.
