“Well done, my good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
Deola Ann Shuff Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on October 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and devotion to her family. A proud resident of Mamou, Louisiana, Deola was a woman whose life was guided by her love for Jesus Christ and her deep commitment to those she held dear.
Born in Chataignier, Louisiana, Deola was a proud graduate of Mamou High School. She found joy in the simple blessings of life, especially fishing, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the beauty of nature. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She loved them with an intense and passionate love, and she poured her heart into raising her five children with tenderness, discipline, and a loving smile. She made certain they were equipped with the values and tools needed to succeed in life, instilling in them a strong love for God, respect for others, and the importance of family.
Deola will be lovingly remembered as the matriarch of her family, a godly woman with a kind and gentle spirit whose love touched the lives of everyone around her. She was a wonderful wife and mother who took immense pride in her family and cherished every moment spent with them.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted Pentecostal and a child of Almighty King Jesus, Deola loved her Savior with all her heart. She treasured reading His Word and singing praises to His holy name. At one time, she proudly served as a member of the church choir, lifting her voice in worship. Her life was a beautiful reflection of the faith she carried throughout her life. She would often would have her “Hallelujah Party,” and now, in the presence of her Lord, she has entered into the eternal rest she so faithfully anticipated.
Her family will forever cherish the lessons she taught, the prayers she prayed, the love she gave, and the example she set. Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of faith and love will continue to live in the hearts of generations to come.
She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories her beloved husband of 62 years, Jy Smith, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion; her five children, Todd Smith and wife Melany , Katherine Smith and Nolen Noel, Victoria Smith Granger and Jamie, Carla Henry and husband Blake, and Melody Smith and husband James Natinos.
She was the proud and loving grandmother of Naomi, Bailee, Kolby, Brooke, Stephen, Steven, Brittany, Brett, Joni, Johnathan, Michael, Aly, and Everleigh. Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable, and they brought her endless joy. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren, Oakley
Briley ,Carson, Krisslynn, Korbyn,
Carla Ann ,Aria , Lexi, Xander, Cade, and Cason who will carry forward the beautiful legacy she established.
Deola is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents, Willis Shuff and Anna Soileau Shuff; her brother, Ronald Shuff; and her sister, Ruby Primeaux.
As her family and friends gather to celebrate a life faithfully lived unto the Lord, they will find comfort in knowing that Deola's faith has become sight and that her earthly farewell is only a temporary separation. Her family can take comfort in knowing that her Hallelujah Party has begun, and she is rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
