Carolyn Huffman

November 17, 1956 — December 5, 2025

Carolyn Sue Huffman, 69, born on November 17, 1956, in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the Savoy Care Center in Mamou, Louisiana.

She loved her children deeply: Beverly McClaskey (Rick), BJ Bauer, David Sarell, and Jason McClaskey. Her memory lives on through her grandchildren—Devan, Jae, Austin, Kayetlyn, Brianna, Elijah, Thomas, Sarah, Brayden, and Rubi—as well as five great-grandchildren. One grandson stated, “I will miss her wanting to know all about the things I am interested in…even if she didn’t understand it.”

She was preceded in death by her father Billy Joe Huffman; mother Sadie Jane Huffman; brother Clyde Huffman; and grandson Nicholas Keith Bauer.

A graduate of Limestone High School’s Class of 1974 (Bartonville, IL), Carolyn embraced life with heartfelt devotion to her family. She tried to give her kids the best she could. She worked many years as a hotel housekeeper. If you knew her, you know that her attention to detail made this a role in which she excelled.

Carolyn found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed coloring intricate designs and creating latch hook art. Word searches brought her peaceful focus. An avid wrestling fan and self-declared “Law & Order junkie,” she appreciated both the excitement and drama and took comfort in familiar stories. She also loved animals. You could often find her on the porch at Savoy Care Center caring for the outdoor kitties that the residents adopted.

Those who knew Carolyn remember her as someone whose love ran deep and whose spirit was feisty. Her memory will continue to brighten the lives of those she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at Savoy Care Center in January.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Peoria, Illinois in the Summer of 2026.
