Billy "Nash" Johnson

A life filled with faith, family, music, and love came to a peaceful close on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as Billy "Nash" Johnson entered eternal rest at the age of 62.

Born in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Billy made his home in Mamou for many years, where he was known as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, gifted musician, talented craftsman, and faithful friend. Above all else, Billy was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided the way he lived his life. He found great strength in God, loved his church, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved most.

Billy shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Emeline Doyle Johnson. Together they built a home filled with laughter, music, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved.

A graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) with a degree in General Studies, Billy enjoyed a successful career as a heavy equipment salesman. Yet no matter where life took him, he was happiest with a guitar in his hands. Music was not simply something he enjoyed—it was part of who he was.

Billy's passion for the guitar was legendary among those who knew him. His collection of guitars numbered well over thirty, each one cherished. Every day he devoted himself to perfecting his craft, always striving to become an even better musician. His remarkable talent earned him the respect of fellow musicians and audiences alike.

Throughout his lifetime, Billy performed with several well-known local bands, including Lynn August and the Hot August Knights, Last Flight with Vic Slaven and Tommy Joe Richard. Manuel Labor with Chuck Manuel, Mike Broussard, Wife Emeline Johnson. Bayou Rouge with his brother Tony Johnson, James Manuel, Chuck Manuel Charles Davide. Whether performing before a packed dance hall or a small hometown gathering, Billy entertained every audience with the same energy, humility, and passion. His music carried him across the country and around the world, allowing him to share his gift while creating friendships and memories that would last a lifetime.

Beyond music, Billy was a true handyman with an incredible ability to repair almost anything. If something was broken, he could usually find a way to make it work again. He also possessed a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed learning about the people and events that shaped the world.

Billy will be remembered for his warm smile, generous heart, quick wit, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through the music he shared, the lives he touched, and the countless memories created with those fortunate enough to know him. Though his guitar has fallen silent, the beautiful melodies he gave to the world will continue to echo in the hearts of all who loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Emeline Doyle Johnson; his children, Emeline Jesse Jean Johnson, Holly Lafleur, Paul Lafleur, and Michael Lafleur, Dixie Lafleur and his treasured grandchildren, Shon, Alexis, Destiny, Nicholas, and McKenzie, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life.

He is also survived by his father, Lee Ray Johnson of Ville Platte; his brothers, Kenneth and Tony Johnson; his sister, Donna Johnson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and fellow musicians.

Billy is reunited in Heaven with his beloved mother, Pearl Jean Devillier Johnson, and his grandparents, Wendy and Agnes (Ma Truck) Johnson and Constance Pierrottie Devillier (Ma Betty) Emery Devillier whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, August 8, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in New St. Ann's Cemetery with Father Arockia Doss Palthasar officiating services.
