MAMOU-Bernard Patrick Daire, 89, of Mamou, LA passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Oak Lane Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Eunice, LA. He was born on November 28, 1932, in Mamou, LA to the late Octave and Odette Lajacque Daire. Bernard honorably served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon being discharged from the military he started a career in the Oil and Gas Industry working at Transcontinental Gas Pipeline where he would later become the foreman of Station 50. located in Eunice, LA. He was a teacher by nature, which made him a great leader. Bernard also served the Mamou community in many different capacities. He was a member of the American Legion Post 123, where he served as President for many years, was Auctioneer for the Cake Auctions and was the Coordinator for the November 11th parade held in Mamou. He also was a proud member of the VFW Post 8971 and Ushers Society. Both Bernard and his late wife, Ethel Richard Daire were extremely civic minded and took great pride in serving the Mamou community.
To his family he was known as a great father and grandfather, who took care of his wife and family. He was also known to be fantastic baker who loved all the sweets and enjoyed making desserts for his family functions. Like many who grew up in the depression era Bernard learned skills such as canning and gardening from his parents, which he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Bernard often said that if he could find a job that paid him enough to buy all the Ice-Cream he could eat, that was the job he wanted. After Retirement, he enjoyed tending his sheep, going hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, gardening, competing with his daughter-in-law, Lisa, in flower growing competitions and spending quality time with his family. In his later years he looked forward to going on drives with his daughter, Arlene to look at area farms and cattle. He will forever be remembered as a people person, kind, and very inquisitive. To his son, Mitchel, Bernard was not only his father but his best friend.
He is survived by his son, Mitchel Daire and his wife, Lisa; daughter, Arleen Daire; grandchildren, Devin and Nicole Daire and their kids, Brandi Andrus and her kids, Chelsea Daire, and Trevor and Mary Blachard and their kids.
