Obituary

Barbara Ann Marcantel, 84, of Mamou, passed away on September 30, 2026, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou, surrounded by loved ones. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou.

Born on November 7, 1941, in Mamou, Barbara lived a life marked by faith, devotion, and deep love for her family. She was dedicated to those she loved and remained closely involved in their lives through the years. Known as a prayerful woman of God, she will be remembered as sweet, kind, and generous to all who knew her.

Barbara’s working life included serving as a bank teller at Citizens Bank. She was also known as a military wife during the Bendix factory years, carrying herself with strength and devotion through the seasons of family life. Beyond her work, she faithfully served her community by working the voting polls for many years.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Barbara loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, read her Bible constantly, and remained faithful to her church. She was a cherished member of New Life Assembly of God, now Community Church Ville Platte. Her steady witness and abiding faith shaped the way she lived each day.

Barbara found joy in simple and meaningful pleasures. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her group of ladies, and she had a special fondness for peacocks and hummingbirds. She was also an excellent cook, and her home was always immaculate, offering a place of warmth, care, and welcome to those around her.

She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory. Barbara is survived by her son, Danzel "Danny" Marcantel Jr., and fiancée, Roxy; grandchildren, Kristy Thibodeaux, Trey Marcantel, and Logan Marcantel; and her great-grandchildren, Kaygun Fontenot, Kaelyn Marcantel, Blayklee Thibodeaux, A'nah Thibodeaux, Ainsley Marcantel, Layne Davis Marcantel. And great-great-grandson, Oliver Fontenot. Their lives were blessed by her love, her prayers, and the steady example she set for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Danzel Davis Marcantel Sr.; her sister, Janelle Ardoin; and her parents, Oban Fontenot and Zoe Guillory Fontenot.

At her family's request, a visitation will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 8:00 AM until the time of services. Pastor Brian Dore and Pastor Collin Courville will officiate.

Barbara Ann Marcantel will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous heart, and the loving way she cared for her family and home. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
