Obituary

Ann Marie Ortwein Runnels passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Mamou, Louisiana. She will be remembered as a loving and nurturing woman whose presence brought comfort to others. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating services.

Ann was born on Monday, November 30, 1959, in Berlin, Germany and was a graduate of Mamou High School, later earning her nursing degree from LSU-Eunice. She went on to serve her community as a nurse at Savoy Medical Center, a profession that reflected her loving and nurturing nature. She was known for the care she gave to others and for the kindness she carried into her daily life. Outside of her work, Ann found joy in crocheting and in antique shopping. She especially enjoyed collecting Pyrex dishes, jewelry, and purses. These interests brought color and character to her life and will remain among the many warm memories cherished by those who knew her. Ann was a big fan of the LSU women’s basketball team, and enjoyed going to games as often as she could to cheer them on.

Ann’s life was marked by compassion, dedication, and the simple pleasures she enjoyed so deeply.

Ann is survived by her sons, Derek Runnels and Taylor Runnels (Tasha); three grandchildren, Ethan Granger (Kirsten), Brianna Runnels, and Adelyn Runnels; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Ariyah Granger. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Karen Vidrine and two brothers, Rick Ortwein and Joseph Ortwein (Cappy).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Patrick Ortwein and Romona Faye Ortwein; her son, Brandon Runnels; and brother-in-law, Darren Vidrine.
