Jeanette S. Deshotel, known fondly as Jean, was born in Leonville on December 15, 1940 to Leo Speyrer, Sr. and Bernice Stelly Speyrer.  Jean was a lady of faith; she prayed her rosary every day.  She was a member of and faithfully attended mass at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.  Jean was the owner of Deshotel Brothers Grocery in Mamou and also worked at Rod’s Supermarket for many years.  She enjoyed crocheting and growing beautiful flowers in her garden.  Although working in her garden was one of her favorite things to do, she despised the green frogs that lived in it.  She loved spending time with family and friends at the camp on Miller’s Lake.  Jean took pride in keeping her home clean.  Pine Sol, Clorox, and a toothbrush were her favorite cleaning tools; she was a believer that her children should learn to clean also.

She is survived by her five children: John H. Deshotel and wife Leisa, Kenneth J. Deshotel and wife Yvette, Michael J. Deshotel and wife Connie, Rachel D. Deshotel and husband Fred, and Brian Deshotel and husband Ron; 11 grandchildren: Brandon J. Deshotel, Melanie Bordelon, Heather Bogard, Kenneth B. Deshotel, Lauren Wimberly, Cody Deshotel, Isaac Deshotel, Kane Deshotel, Josi Deshotel, Myles Deshotel and Madeline Deshotel:  ten great grandchildren:  Landry Deshotel, Chesley Deshotel, Weston Deshotel, Grace Bordelon, John Bordelon, Hayleigh Bogard, Ellie Kate Wimberly, Maria Wimberley, Lane Wimberely, and Major Ursery and four siblings: Betty Speyrer Fontenot, Lucilee Speyrer Soileau, Leo Speyrer, Jr. and Lee Speyrer.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Leo Speyrer, Sr. and Bernice Stelly Speyrer, her husband of 50 years, John Herbert Deshotel, Sr., and her dear pet, FeFe.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Wednesday, June 5 from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM.  Visitation will resume Thursday, June 6 at 8:00 AM until time of service.  A rosary, led by Deacon Chuck Ortego, will be recited on Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM.
